Y.O.U.TH is hosting the Black History 101 Mobile Museum "The Music of the Movement" with lectures by Dr. Khalid El-Hakim & Professor Griff. This event is sponsored by Youth, Justice & Rights (YJR), a leading nonprofit law firm dedicated exclusively to children and families. We believe YJR's work in collaboration with our #BooksNotBarsOR programming will help dismantle the school to prison pipeline here in Oregon. Partnering to bring events like "The Music of the Movement" to East County provides access to history, culture and identity to the community.
We look forward to you joining us on the evening of Thursday January 25th from 5pm to 8pm at The Center Powered by Y.O.U.TH.
The theme of our 2024 exhibit, "The Music of the Movement," promises to be a poignant celebration of the Black experience through the lens of Black musical traditions and innovations, spanning from pre-Civil War southern plantations to the Black Lives Matter Movement. This exhibit will feature over 150 original artifacts carefully curated from our extensive collection of over 10,000 artifacts, gathered by Dr. Khalid el-Hakim over the past 33 years. Dr. Khalid El-Hakim, a highly sought-after educator and speaker, will be personally present at each stop to engage, educate, and inspire audiences of all ages. We believe that the power of music transcends generations and has played a pivotal role in the story of Black America. "The Music of the Movement" promises to illuminate this journey in a way that resonates deeply with all who attend.
